1. Who we are

Cornerstone Platform Inc. ("Cornerstone", "we", "us") operates the Cornerstone Portfolio service at cornerstoneportfolio.app and the platform site at viewcornerstone.com. Our business address is 310-1639 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver, BC V6J 1H3.

Cornerstone has designated a privacy officer who is accountable for our compliance with this policy and with applicable privacy law. You can reach the privacy officer at privacy@viewcornerstone.com.

2. Scope

This policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use cornerstoneportfolio.app, visit viewcornerstone.com, or communicate with us.

It applies to users in Canada and the United States. In Canada, we handle personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for users in British Columbia, the Personal Information Protection Act (BC PIPA). In the United States, we provide the rights described in section 10 to all users, including the rights required by the state privacy laws that apply in our initial markets (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut).

3. What we collect and where it comes from

3.1 Information you provide

  • Account information: your name and email address, collected at signup.
  • Documents you upload: mortgage statements, insurance policies, property tax bills, and similar records, together with the data we extract from them to populate your portfolio.
  • Information you enter manually about yourself or your properties.
  • Communications with us, such as support requests.

3.2 Identity verification (optional)

Verification is your choice. If you choose to verify your identity, an identity verification provider processes the information needed to confirm who you are, which may include government-issued identification. We receive the verification result and the limited details needed to record it. You can use the service without verifying.

3.3 Property data from public records and licensed data providers

When you add a property to your portfolio, we retrieve data about that property from public records and from licensed data providers. This includes assessments, permits, property characteristics, and valuations, including automated valuation model (AVM) estimates.

3.4 Derived analytics

We calculate analytics from the information above, such as estimated market value, estimated equity, and cost of ownership. These analytics are part of your portfolio and are treated as your personal information where they relate to you.

3.5 Information collected automatically

When you use the service we collect standard technical information: IP address, device and browser type, and usage logs.

4. How we use personal information

We use personal information to:

  • Provide and operate the service: build and maintain your portfolio, extract data from documents you upload, retrieve property data for properties you add, and compute analytics.
  • Verify your identity, when you request it.
  • Share your information with recipients you choose, at your direction (section 5).
  • Communicate with you about your account and the service.
  • Keep the service secure: detect fraud, debug, and monitor performance.
  • Meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use your information for third-party advertising.

5. Sharing and disclosure

5.1 At your direction

Your portfolio is shared only when you direct it, with recipients you choose, such as family members, professionals, lenders, or insurers. You control what is shared and you can stop sharing at any time. Stopping a share does not retrieve copies a recipient already received.

5.2 Service providers

We use service providers to operate the service, as described in section 6. They process personal information on our instructions under contract.

5.3 Legal requirements

We may disclose personal information where required by law, such as in response to a court order, subpoena, or lawful request by a public authority, or where necessary to protect our legal rights or the safety of users.

5.4 Business transfers

If Cornerstone is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice of any change in ownership or in how your personal information is handled.

6. Service providers

We use service providers in these categories:

  • Cloud hosting and storage
  • Identity verification
  • Licensed property data providers
  • Email and communications delivery
  • Analytics and error monitoring
  • Customer support tooling

Each provider is bound by contract to process personal information only to provide its service to us. A current list of our service providers is available on request.

7. Cross-border transfers

Personal information may be stored and processed in Canada and the United States. When personal information is processed outside your province or country, it remains subject to this policy, and it may be subject to access by courts, law enforcement, and national security authorities in the jurisdiction where it is processed.

8. Retention

We keep personal information while your account is active and for as long as needed for the purposes in section 4. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it. When you close your account, we delete your personal information, subject to legal retention obligations and routine backup cycles. Property data drawn from public records and licensed data providers is not personal information on its own and may be retained after account closure.

9. Security

We protect personal information with technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and logging. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If a breach of security safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected users and the relevant regulators as required by applicable law.

10. Your rights and choices

10.1 Canada (PIPEDA and BC PIPA)

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Withdraw consent to our collection, use, or disclosure of your information, subject to legal and contractual restrictions. Withdrawing consent may limit or end our ability to provide the service.
  • Ask questions or make a complaint to our privacy officer, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or, in British Columbia, to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

10.2 United States

We extend the following rights to all US users, consistent with applicable state privacy laws, including those of New Jersey and Connecticut:

  • Access and portability: confirm whether we process your personal information and obtain a copy.
  • Correction: correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Deletion: delete personal information you have provided or we have obtained about you.
  • Opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, and profiling with significant effects. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
  • Non-discrimination: we will not deny you the service or degrade it because you exercised a right.
  • Appeal: if we decline a request, you may appeal, and we will explain the outcome. You may also contact your state attorney general.

10.3 How to exercise these rights

Email privacy@viewcornerstone.com. We will verify your identity before acting on a request and respond within the timelines required by applicable law.

11. Children

The service is not directed at individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will post the updated version and, for material changes, notify you by email or in-app notice before the changes take effect. The effective date of the published version will appear at the top of the policy.
